Photovoltaic power plants

SunLife undertakes the design and installation of grid-connected and off-grid photovoltaic systems

The generation of electrical power with the use of photovoltaic modules is nowadays a proven and widespread technology. Photovoltaic modules are manufactured by semiconductor materials (eg. silicon) which absorb the solar radiation and convert it to electrical energy. Photovoltaic modules generate direct current (DC) which is converted to alternating current (AC) with the use of an inverter.

SunLife has a lot of experience in the licensing procedures and installation of photovoltaic power plants and can offer you turn-key solutions tailored to your specific needs. SunLife is certified according to ISO 9001:2008 for the engineering, design, procurement of equipment, installation and maintenance of photovoltaic power plants.

ISO CERTIFICATION

Grid-connected photovoltaic systems

Grid-connected photovoltaic systems are divided into:

Systems owned by independent producers who produce exclusively for the distribution and sale of the energy to the utility grid.

Systems owned by self-consuming producers who generate power to satisfy their own needs and the remaining energy is fed to the grid.

Off-grid photovoltaic systems

Off-grid photovoltaic systems are not connected to the utility grid and they generate power to satisfy the energy needs of a local consumer (e.g. countryside house). They demand a carefully dimensioned battery system so that a constant and uninterrupted power supply for the consumer can be ensured.

Solar thermal

Sunlife undertakes the design and installation of solar thermal systems for every type of applications

The term solar thermal refers to systems which utilize solar radiation to heat a working medium. Solar thermal systems convert solar radiation to thermal energy which can be stored or used directly for the heating or cooling of buildings, for the production of domestic hot water, for the production of hot water for industrial processes or even for electrical power generation.

The different types of solar collectors that we can encounter can be categorized as follows:

Low-temperature solar collectors

They can heat the working medium up to temperatures of 80°C. Flat-plate collectors or evacuated tube collectors belong in this category. These collectors are often used in residential solar thermal systems for the production of domestic hot water.

Medium-temperature solar collectors

Medium-temperature refers to collectors which can heat the working medium up to a temperature range of 80°C - 250°C.

High-temperature solar collectors

High-temperature collectors can achieve temperatures of the working medium higher than 250°C. Parabolic trough collectors belong in this category.

Concentrating solar collectors

Concentrating solar collectors use mirrors to concentrate the solar radiation and convert it into high-temperature heat. This high-temperature heat can be used to supply industrial processes or even generate electricity. Concentrating solar systems employ one-axis or two-axis solar tracking. The principal types of concentrating collectors include the following: the parabolic trough, the Dish Engine, the Fresnel reflector and the solar power tower.

There are numerous applications of solar thermal systems. Some characteristic examples are given below:

  • Production of hot water, steam or hot thermal fluid for industrial use. Food and beverage industries, chemical industries or textile processing industries are typical examples of industries which can benefit from the application of solar thermal systems.

  • Generation of cooling by combining solar collectors with absorption/adsorption chillers. The cooling energy can be used for the cooling of buildings or even for food refrigeration.

  • Combination of solar collectors with a heat pump to fulfill the thermal energy needs of a building or residence

  • Fulfillment of the energy needs of greenhouses

  • Swimming pool solar heating

  • Desalination

  • Supply of thermal energy for mines

Sunlife undertakes the engineering, design, installation and maintenance of solar thermal systems for all kinds of applications. These systems must be often integrated in already functioning thermal energy supply systems and thus it is crucial that they are designed and dimensioned carefully. From the most common application which is the production of domestic hot water up to industry applications, Sunlife can provide you with the optimal solution and help you make the right decision for your investment. Fuel prices are always going to be a variable factor and renewable energy solutions like solar thermal are an option worth exploring.
